Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, with reference to the Answer of 4 July 2019 to Question 270326 on the International Decade for People of African Descent, what recent discussions he has had with his international counterparts on recognition, justice and development for people of African descent; and if he will make it his policy to participate in the UN Decade for African People and support the theme entitled People of African descent: recognition, justice and development.

The Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs has regular discussions about how to tackle injustices and advocate for respect among different ethnic groups internationally. This includes calling upon countries to uphold their human rights obligations, particularly through international institutions such as the UN. The UK joined consensus on the resolution proclaiming the International Decade for People of African Descent. We will continue to work to eradicate discrimination and intolerance at home, and use the FCDO as a force for good in addressing injustices overseas.
