Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 8 June 2026 to Question 5043 on Railways: Nature Conservation, what estimate her Department has made of the annual cost to Network Rail of (a) surveys and checks for nesting birds, (b) ecological surveys relating to bats and (c) ecological surveys relating to great crested newts, in each of the last five years.

The Department / Network Rail do not hold a centrally collated estimate of the annual cost of any ecological surveys undertaken for bats, great crested newts, or nesting birds.
