In April 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement communicated the priorities for clinical service restoration to all service providers and commissioners, highlighting organ transplantation as a priority. A further letter in July set out targets for expected rates of recovery of elective activity in September of at least 80% of the trust’s last year’s activity for overnight electives, rising to 90% in October.

NHS England and NHS Improvement continue to work closely with NHS Blood and Transplant to restore transplant services, including kidney transplants. Deceased organ donation and transplantation activity is now restored to pre-COVID-19 levels. In terms of living donation, the United Kingdom living kidney sharing scheme October 2020 matching run will proceed according to the scheduled timetable.
