We have interpreted “temporary staff” to mean the number of temporary and agency staff employed by NHS providers. NHS providers are defined as NHS trusts and foundation trusts.

2013-14 was the first time that the Department collected unaudited financial data from NHS trusts and foundation trusts in respect of net temporary and agency staffing costs.
