Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what recent discussions her Department has had with the travel industry on the price of family holidays during school summer holidays.
Parents should avoid taking their children out of school during term-time, except in exceptional circumstances.
The evidence shows every extra day of school missed can affect a pupil’s chances of achieving good GCSEs, which has a lasting effect on their life chances.
We are pleased the Supreme Court unanimously agreed with our position that no child should be taken out of school without good reason.
Following the Supreme Court judgment, we are carefully considering what our next steps will be. This includes potential discussions with other departments across government with a common interest in the travel industry, to build on my Department’s previous discussions with the industry in 2016 on the potential implications of the High Court judgment.
