The Government has worked with the water industry, Ofwat and the Environment Agency to put in place the Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan process which has been made statutory by the Environment Act 2021. Water and sewerage companies will be publishing draft plans in 2022 which the Government will assess. Plans will assess the capacity and resilience of sewerage systems in England and set out a strategy to ensure that they meet current and future requirements.
