Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of extending the (a) young person's railcard and (b) 26 to 30 railcard for 12 months to encourage young workers to use the train.

My Department recognises that Railcard holders have been unable to use their cards while travel restrictions were in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are considering a range of options for all Railcard holders. We have not specifically considered the potential merits of extending the Young Person’s Railcard or the 26 to 30 Railcard. We continue to work closely with the Rail Delivery Group and the wider industry to consider how best to support those returning to the railway
