Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if she will make an assessment of the potential merits of permitting UK families to host refugees whose applications for asylum are being processed.

Asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute can obtain support under section 95 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. The support package provided to these individuals usually consists of free, furnished accommodation and a weekly cash allowance to meet other essential living needs such as food and clothes.

Asylum seekers may also obtain accommodation with friends or relatives.
