Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what proportion of stop and searches involved (a) foreign and (b) British nationals; and what proportion of each such category resulted in an arrest in the last year for which information is available.

The Home Office does not hold information on the nationality of individuals stopped and searched.

The Home Office collects and publishes statistics on the number of stop and searches, and the number of resultant arrests, conducted by each police force in England and Wales. Data are broken down by the reason for the search, and the ethnicity of the person being searched, but not on the nationality of the individual. The next release of ‘Police Powers’ statistics is due to be published in October, for the year ending March 2017.
