The Government is committed to securing an ambitious, legally binding, global deal on climate change at COP21 in Paris.

On 6th March 2015, the EU and its Member States submitted their Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) ahead of COP21, committing to reduce domestic greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 relative to 1990 levels. In the context of securing an ambitious deal in Paris, the UK remains open to the EU raising its target beyond 40% if the right conditions emerge.

The Government is working with others in the EU, including through meetings of the Environment Council, and more broadly internationally at all levels to secure the ambitious global agreement we want.
