Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what discussions she has had with the government of India on the refusal to renew Oxfam India's licence to receive funds from outside India.

We are aware some non-governmental organisations have faced difficulties in India due to the use of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act by the Indian Government. We support a wide range of local NGO partners in India, including through programmes.

Where we have concerns, we raise them directly with the Indian Government. We have noted the important role of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in a democracy during our representations. The British High Commission in New Delhi will continue to monitor developments, and engage with religious representatives and run projects supporting minority rights.
