To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, what the energy generating potential is of the UK's plutonium stockpile.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is in the process of submitting advice to DECC, which together with other sources of information and evidence, will enable DECC to consider options for the disposition of plutonium.

There are a number of options for disposing of plutonium that will be considered. There is variation in the generating potential of some of the options, so there is not one specific estimate of the generating potential of the UK’s plutonium inventory.

When the Government is confident that its preferred option for plutonium disposition could be implemented safely and securely, and in a way that is affordable, deliverable, and offers value for money, we will be in a position to proceed.
