Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they plan to introduce legislation to protect consumers’ access to cash; and if so, when.

The Government published a Call for Evidence on 15 October to inform its approach for legislating to protect access to cash. The document sought views on the key considerations associated with cash access, including deposit and withdrawal facilities, cash acceptance, and regulatory oversight of the cash system. The Call for Evidence closed on 25 November; the Government is considering responses and will set out its next steps in due course.
