Question to the Home Office:
To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the report by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission Public Sector Equality Duty assessment of hostile environment policies, published on 25 November; and what steps they are taking in response to the finding that they did not comply with section 149 of the Equalities Act 2010 “in understanding the impact on the Windrush generation and their descendants when developing, implementing and monitoring the hostile environment policy agenda”.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission’s report highlights a number of important areas for improvement by the Home Office.
I am committed to working closely with the EHRC to develop an action plan, intended to address the issues raised in their report, by the end of January 2021. This action plan will build on the work we are already doing in response to the Windrush Lessons Learned Review to ensure our policymaking is more inclusive and robust, and that the Public Sector Equality Duty is front and centre of all our work.
