Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what their plans are to fight climate change.
The Climate Change Act 2008 introduced a target for the UK to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80%, based on 1990 levels. This followed advice from the Committee on Climate Change who deemed that 80% was a fair share from the UK to an international effort to limit global warming to 2 degrees.
Our policies are designed to tackle climate change and make the transition to a low carbon economy. This includes:
· Helping consumers and businesses to save money on their energy bills
· Making homes more energy efficient
· Helping consumers to take control of their energy use with smart meters
· Decarbonising the power sector in the most cost effective way
