Israeli Settlements: Import Controls

(asked on 20th November 2018) - View Source

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many times goods from Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory have been banned from entering the UK in the last two years.

This question was answered on 4th December 2018

We understand the concerns of people who do not wish to purchase goods exported from Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs). It was in order to enable consumers to make a more fully informed decision concerning the products they buy that, in December 2009, the UK introduced voluntary guidelines to enable produce from Israeli settlements in the OPTs to be specifically labelled as such. We also welcomed the European Commission’s decision of November 2015 to issue indication of origin guidelines for products produced in Israeli settlements. However the UK does not ban the import of settlement products and as such we do not have a record of how many times goods from Israeli settlements in the OPTs have been banned from entering the UK.
