Question to the Home Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many people currently held in immigration detention are claiming asylum on the grounds of religious persecution.

The basis of a person’s asylum claim is recorded on their individual Home Office file, but not in a way that can be easily aggregated. Therefore, we cannot provide figures on how many people are currently held in immigra-tion detention, claiming asylum on the grounds of religious persecution.


As such, this information could only be obtained at disproportionate cost because it would require a manual search through individual records.


Information on people entering detention in 2018 can be found in tab dt_01_q of the ‘Detention data tables immigration statistics year ending September 2018’:
