Question to the Home Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what steps they have taken to implement the recommendations relating to the interception of emails and the theft of data set out in the 2013 Annual Report of the Interception of Communications Commissioner, presented to Parliament on 8 April 2014.

The Government takes the recommendations of the Interception of Communications Commissioner extremely seriously. A number of the recommendations relate to internal practice and guidance and since 2013 the intercepting agencies will have worked with the Commissioner’s office to refine and improve processes.

The Government brought forward the Investigatory Powers Bill which was approved by Parliament and which addresses a number of the recommendations contained in previous reports from the Commissioner. We will also lay new detailed codes of practice before Parliament in due course.
