Question to the Home Office:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what was the total expenditure from the Home Office budget during 2014-15, and the total planned expenditure for 2015-16, on the reception, processing, accommodation and maintenance of illegal immigrants claiming refuge or asylum on arrival in the United Kingdom.

It is not possible to answer the question as asylum claims are considered regardless of the means by which an applicant entered the country. We therefore do not set a discrete budget for the costs of supporting and accommodating asylum applicants who have entered the country illegally.
