Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what plans they have to fund an investigation into children held in prison in Bahrain, similar to the report funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office concerning the treatment of Palestinian children under Israeli military law.
Our Embassy in Bahrain has raised the rates of imprisonment of young people on several occasions with the Ministry of the Interior and senior members of the Government of Bahrain. We support the recommendation to address the management and rehabilitation of juveniles in the justice system, in the Prisoners’ and Detainees’ Rights Commission and the Ministry of Interior’s Ombudsman’s office reports earlier this year. We encourage the Government of Bahrain to implement these recommendations promptly and plan to provide UK support in the field of juvenile justice.
