Question to the Home Office:
To ask Her Majesty's Government what acts of terrorism occured in England and Wales in each of the last five years; and in each case (1) how many people lost their lives, and (2) whether (a) the perpetrator claimed to be acting in the name of Islam, and (b) the Islamic State claimed that the perpetrator was one of its activists or soldiers.
For the purposes of your question, I have assumed that by ‘acts of terrorism’ you refer to terrorist attacks (declared as such by the Police). During the past five years, there have been 8 such terrorist attacks within England and Wales, which have claimed 39 lives (plus five perpetrators). There have been no instances where the perpetrator(s) claimed to be acting ‘in the name of Islam’, however, in four of the eight attacks, Daesh claimed that the perpetrator(s) was or were one of its activists or soldiers.
Please see the below table for a breakdown of these figures.
