Question to the Home Office:

To ask His Majesty's Government how many asylum seekers were waiting for a decision on their application in each of the last five years

The Home Office publishes data on asylum in the ‘Immigration Statistics Quarterly Release’ on gov.uk. Data on asylum applications awaiting a decision can be found in table Asy_D03 of the ‘asylum and resettlement detailed datasets’. Information on how to use the dataset can be found in the ‘Notes’ page of the workbook.

At the end of September 2022, there were 117,400 cases awaiting an initial decision.
