Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what steps they are taking to raise GPs' awareness of obsessive compulsive disorder in order to ensure that patients are not misdiagnosed.

This question was answered on 6th December 2016

The Five Year Forward View for Mental Health recommended that the Department and NHS England should work with the Royal College of General Practitioners and Health Education England (HEE) to ensure that by 2020 all general practitioners (GPs), including the 5,000 joining the workforce by 2020-21, receive core mental health training, and to develop a new role of GPs with an extended Scope of Practice in Mental Health, with at least 700 in practice within five years.

HEE offers the MindEd programme to GPs, which provides a free e-learning resource including a session on obsessive compulsive disorder.
