Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask Her Majesty's Government, following the Prime Minister’s speech in Jordan on 30 November, what action they intend to take to "strengthen [the Government’s] response to Iran’s ballistic missile programme and its proliferation of weapons".
We have consistently made clear our concerns to Iran about its ballistic missile programme and the supply of weapons to neighbouring countries. We continue to raise our concerns under United National Security Council Resolutions 2231 and 2216, alongside our French, German, and US colleagues, and work with the relevant UN bodies to support the implementation of these resolutions. The UK Government condemned the Houthi missile attacks on Riyadh on 4 November and 19 December which deliberately targeted a civilian areas. The supply of ballistic missiles to the Houthis threatens regional security and prolonging the conflict. It is essential that the UN investigates this. In his visit to Iran on 9-10 December, the Foreign Secretary pressed his Iranian counterparts to use their influence to ensure that these indiscriminate and dangerous attacks come to an end.
