Question to the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology:
To ask His Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to ensure creative industries remain protected from being used by artificial intelligence models, particularly regarding the music industry.
Copying protected material in the UK will infringe copyright unless it is licensed, or an exception to copyright applies.
The Government published a consultation on Copyright and AI in December 2024.
The consultation seeks views on how to give rights holders of creative works, including those in the music industry, greater control over use of their material, and greater transparency about when their material is used to train AI models, while supporting the development of world-leading AI models in the UK.
The consultation closes on 25 February.
