Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the risk posed by a novel coronavirus to the UK.

This question was answered on 24th January 2020

Based on limited available information on the transmission of the disease, the risk posed by the novel coronavirus to the United Kingdom population is considered low and the risk to UK travellers to China is moderate. This remains under review as more data emerges.

This risk assessment was reviewed and agreed by New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group on 21 January 2020.
