Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their assessment of the effectiveness of the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur in fulfilling its mandate and facilitating humanitarian access.

We continue to believe that the UN African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has an important role to play in the protection of civilians in Darfur. The Secretary-General’s most recent report on UNAMID noted some improvements in humanitarian access, but stated that the overall situation remained problematic. For that reason, we strongly supported the 2014 Strategic Review of the mission and look forward to the upcoming report on its implementation.
