Question to the Department for International Trade:
To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans, if any, they have to seek to include a clause promoting the principles of human rights and democracy in any post-Brexit trade deals.
The UK has a strong history of protecting human rights.
The UK was the first country to produce a National Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
The UK is also a voting member of the UN Human Rights Council. The UK was a founding member of the UN Human Rights Council and has served as a member of the Council for the majority of its 12-year lifespan.
UK has long supported the promotion of these values globally and this will continue as we leave the EU. We are committed to upholding the UK’s high standards. We are exploring all options in the design of future trade agreements.
