Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon on 21 December 2016 (HL 4153), whether they plan to ensure that all new railway platform work will be carried out to the British specification of 915mm height in anticipation of leaving the EU; and what plans are being developed to bring all UK train platforms up to that standard.
There is not a requirement to modify all UK platforms to meet a height of 915 mm but if upgrade work is carried out this is currently the applicable height. For platforms on new railways, such as HS2, this height may be too low to facilitate level boarding and the application of alternative heights is being considered.
