The Department recognises that to meet future challenges the adult social care sector will need to attract a bigger and more diverse workforce. Recruiting and retaining a quality workforce is central to providing the care services that people want.

A new adult social care workforce recruitment and retention strategy was launched by the Department in partnership with Skills for Care in September 2014. The priorities of the strategy are to raise the profile of social care and to address the above average turnover in the sector.
