Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their estimate of the investment required to extend packing, inspection and storage facilities at ports and airports if the UK leaves the Customs Union.

Alongside a new arrangement with the EU, the Government will look to ensure that the UK’s own customs systems and processes continue to be as effective as possible. The Government has an open mind on how we implement new customs arrangements with the EU and we will work with businesses and infrastructure providers to ensure those processes are as frictionless as possible, including through the use of digital technologies.

It is not usual to comment on ongoing analytical work being carried out within Government.
