Question to the Department for International Trade:
To ask Her Majesty's Government how they plan to facilitate the continuation of existing EU trade agreements with non-EU countries after Brexit; and what legal provisions they intend to seek to put in place to enable such continuation.
As a priority, we are currently working with our international partners to achieve continuity of the application of these agreements during the proposed Implementation Period, in order to ensure an orderly transition and provide certainty for businesses and individuals.
The Government has also introduced legislation to Parliament to ensure the legal provisions are in place to support continuity of effect of these agreements once they no longer apply to the UK. The Trade Bill was introduced on 9th November 2017 and creates a power that will ensure we can secure the continuity of EU trade agreements.
