Refugees: Syria

(asked on 20th April 2016) - View Source

Question to the Home Office:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether it is their intention that the 20,000 refugees being brought to the UK before 2020 will be housed in local authority accommodation or hosted by British families.

This question was answered on 27th April 2016

The UK has been operating resettlement schemes for many years and we already have established an effective networks to accommodate and support resettled people. We continue to work closely with Local Authorities to ensure infrastructure and support networks are in place for the appropriate care and integration of these refugees. This includes ensuring suitable housing is available for them. The accommodation provided to refugees resettled in the UK under the Syrian VPR programme is likely to be private rented accommodation and will be within existing local housing allowance rates. We are not looking to host Syrian refugees in people's homes.
