Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have to develop a national strategy for vaccination.

There are currently no plans to develop a national strategy for vaccination.

Vaccination plays a significant role in preventing disease, disability and death and the Government is totally committed to the United Kingdom’s world leading vaccination programme.

The vaccination programme in England protects against 16 different diseases and is based on the expert advice of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). Under the NHS Constitution there is a right for patients and the public to receive the vaccinations that the JCVI recommends should be received under a National Health Service-provided national immunisation programme. The programme is commissioned and delivered through NHS England and Public Health England, supported by robust disease surveillance systems.
