Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the willingness and capacity of the government of Cameroon to investigate alleged human rights abuses in Anglophone Cameroon.
The British Government is clear that human rights are universal and must apply equally to all, and that all allegations of abuse must be investigated, including in Cameroon. We welcome the decision of the Government of Cameroon to open investigations into alleged abuses in Anglophone regions and other parts of the country. We want to see an end to violence, and a meaningful process of dialogue to address the core issues in Cameroon. We will continue to engage with the Government of Cameroon on these and wider issues and underline that all parties have a responsibility to work for peace and stability, and to use legal and peaceful means to voice grievances.
