Written Question
Health Services: Women
Wednesday 8th May 2024

Asked by: Tracey Crouch (Conservative - Chatham and Aylesford)

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if she will make an assessment of the potential merits of setting a timetable for the full implementation of the Women’s Health Strategy across all integrated care boards.

Answered by Maria Caulfield - Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Department for Business and Trade) (Minister for Women)

The Women’s Health Strategy sets out our ambitions for improving the health and wellbeing of women and girls in England. It is a 10-year strategy, as many of the improvements we want to see require structural change. We have committed to updating Parliament annually on the progress of the Women’s Health Strategy. In January 2024, my Rt hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care updated Parliament on our priorities for 2024.

To support local implementation of the strategy, we have established a Network of Women’s Health Champions, made up of senior leaders from every integrated care system. The network is working together to implement priority commitments in the strategy, including women’s health hubs.

Scottish Parliament Written Question
S6W-27272
Monday 13th May 2024

Asked by: Lennon, Monica (Scottish Labour - Central Scotland)

Question

To ask the Scottish Government what recent discussions it has had with the Scottish Sentencing Council regarding sentencing in cases where miscarriage or forced termination has occurred as a serious aggravation of domestic abuse.

Answered by Constance, Angela - Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs

Instances where miscarriage or forced termination has taken place because of domestic violence reflects the most tragic of circumstances based on the cruel realities of domestic abuse.

Just two weeks ago, this Parliament debated a Petition on the creation of an unborn victims of violence offence, where we heard about the harrowing realities of domestic abuse that were suffered by the Petitioner, Nicola Murray.

Following the debate, my officials have been in contact with the Sentencing Council to ascertain the next steps in their development of guidelines on domestic abuse. As this Parliament recognised, the outcome of this work is fundamental in determining next steps. I look forward to how this progresses as we look to root out and tackle the toxic masculinity and gender inequality that leads to violence, harassment, misogyny and abuse against women.
