Written Question
France and Germany: Tanks
Monday 29th April 2024

Asked by: Lord Lee of Trafford (Liberal Democrat - Life peer)

Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask His Majesty's Government, further to the Written Answer by The Earl of Minto on 9 April (HL3588), whether they will now answer the question put, namely whether they were invited to participate in the Main Ground Combat System programme.

Answered by Earl of Minto - Minister of State (Ministry of Defence)

Interest in the Observer Status request was recognised by both nations. The next step will involve France and Germany convening a conference for prospective 'observers' to discuss administrative procedures before any formal invitation is made to adopt this status. France: Foreign Relations
Tuesday 24th October 2023

Asked by: Andrew Rosindell (Conservative - Romford)

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what plans he has to celebrate the120th anniversary of the signing of the Entente Cordiale.

Answered by Leo Docherty - Minister of State (Ministry of Defence) (Minister for the Armed Forces)

The 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale in 2024 will let us celebrate the breadth of the UK-France relationship. At the UK-France Summit in March 2023, the Prime Minister and President Macron underlined their determination to deepen ties, including on migration, defence, energy and culture. UK and French officials, and our respective militaries, are in contact about plans for this anniversary year, which will be communicated in due course.
