Asked by: Lord Sharma (Conservative - Life peer) Monday 10th March 2025 Question to the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero: To ask His Majesty's Government what plans they have to ban the practice of non-emergency venting and flaring from oil and gas infrastructure. Answered by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath - Minister of State (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero) The UK has committed to the World Bank’s ‘Zero Routine Flaring by 2030’ Initiative, which relates to flaring from oil production, and to go further by ending routine flaring and venting from both oil and gas, by 2030.
In 2024, the North Sea Transition Authority set out new requirements on the industry in the ‘OGA Plan’, to reduce upstream production emissions, including from flaring and venting.
With support from Government and regulators, the industry is on track to meet these ambitious targets. |
