Written Question
Treasury: Public Expenditure
Monday 22nd October 2018

Asked by: Lord Bellingham (Conservative - Life peer)

Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what recent discussions he has had with the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the future funding of his Department.

Answered by Gavin Williamson

I have regular discussions with the Chancellor.

This Government is committed to spending at least 2% of GDP on defence and the Ministry of Defence’s budget will rise at least 0.5% above inflation every year of this Parliament, taking it to almost £40 billion by 2021.

I shall now conclude. The point is that these veterans are not asking for a great deal; they are simply making a request of this Government of all Governments—a Conservative Government who, at every possible opportunity, stand up and say that they support veterans. …..."
