Brexit undermines the rights of students & future generations to live, work and study across our continent. Nottingham’s economy, NHS & universities @UniofNottingham @TrentUni thrive because of free movement in Europe That’s why I will campaign for #PeoplesVote + remaining in EU https://t.co/IiHwaaOoUA
Fed up with the election so far? The broken parties have put a truly terrible choice before the country That’s why it’s my duty to stand for re-election in Nottingham East. So local people have an alternative independent option & don’t have to vote for one extreme or the other. https://t.co/vKSyqtKYi6
Thank you to those supporting me this weekend across Nottingham East - if you want to get involved and volunteer, get in touch at chris@theindependent.group #GeneralElection19 https://t.co/TRQ6zccuDO
Out & about on doorsteps discussing with residents in Nottingham East how they don’t have to choose between either Johnson’s candidate or Corbyn’s candidate here. Grateful for fabulous support...and that it’s even stopped raining!! #GeneralElection2019 https://t.co/snvNXcPPrG
Registering to vote, if you’ve not already done so, is incredibly important and very straightforward. Especially if you live in Nottingham East or want to support my excellent colleagues @Anna_Soubry in Broxtowe and @MikeGapes in Ilford South! #GeneralElection2019 https://t.co/SghRzco8Wi
Brexit presents a clear threat to Nottingham’s economy & future generations. I’ve consistently argued for remaining in the EU. Having an independent voice in Parliament - not frightened to stand up to Party whips - is more important than ever. #PeoplesVote https://t.co/6v4KPVAOkk
In his desperation to dream up new revenues, Corbyn even conjures up £5bn from a ‘fiscal multiplier’...and then base concrete spending plans on this house of cards! What a tragedy for Britain we haven’t got an even half-way credible Labour Party any longer.
There’s definitely a case for equalising tax rates on dividend income and earnings income. But when I asked the Commons Library about this earlier this year, they reckoned at most it could raise £5.9bn, not the £9bn+ Labour are banking on. https://t.co/kvWNhxtmjm
They don’t specify which corporation tax reliefs they’d ditch to raise a large £4.3bn. And scrapping research & development tax credits and the ‘patent box’ at £4bn would have a pretty devastating impact on the homegrown innovation - but that impact is just shrugged off..
Even a cursory glance at McDonnell’s ‘costings’ paper reveals problems. Supposedly raising £6.2bn through an unspecified ‘Fair Tax Programme’ (which seems in their document to boil down to, er, more ‘HMRC audits’) needs taking with a v large pinch of salt.
