Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, what comparative assessment he has made of the support received by rural areas under (a) EU structural funds and (b) the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Answered by Neil O'Brien - Shadow Minister (Policy Renewal and Development)
The Government recognises the role EU Structural Funding has played in supporting jobs and growth opportunities across the UK. Leaving the European Union has provided us with a fresh opportunity to create a fund which invests in UK priorities and targets funding where it is needed most.
The UKSPF, worth over £2.6 billion, will help people access opportunity in places in need, such as ex-industrial areas, deprived towns and rural and coastal communities, and people in disadvantaged groups across the UK. Further details about the UKSPF will be set out in due course.
