Trade Agreements
Thursday 6th July 2017

Asked by: David Morris (Conservative - Morecambe and Lunesdale)

Question to the Department for International Trade:

To ask the Secretary of State for International Trade, what assessment his Department has made of the effect on the UK of the WTO's Trade Facilitation Agreement.

Answered by Greg Hands

Implementing the Trade Facilitation Agreement will increase efficiency at the borders of participating members and make it easier and cheaper for UK businesses to export their goods and services across the globe.

This is a landmark agreement, which demonstrates the UK’s commitment to free trade and to a global rules-based system.

Once implemented, studies suggest that the agreement will add over £70 billion to the global economy, with a benefit to the UK of up to £1 billion.
