Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what assessment his Department has made of the potential merits of using distributed energy systems across the defence estate.

The Department is working to establish its future energy master plan. This plan will look at several possibilities for energy management including the use of distributed energy generation, battery storage and smart grid technology.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what steps the Government is taking to reduce energy costs across the defence estate.

The Sustainable Ministry of Defence (MOD) Annual Report 2016-17, available at the link below, provides detailed information on how the Department is reducing energy costs across the estate:

In addition, the Department works with Crown Commercial Services to procure energy at competitive tariffs and exploit opportunities for local energy supply through power purchase agreements.
