Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what assessment his Department has made of the the potential impact of reintroducing a nuclear role for the Royal Air Force on the UK’s commitment to nuclear disarmament under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The nuclear weapons allocated to the NATO dual capable aircraft nuclear mission, to which the United Kingdom (UK) will contribute its F-35A aircraft, are United States (US) nuclear weapons and remain under US custody and control, in full compliance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
The UK remains fully committed to the long-term goal of a world without nuclear weapons in a transparent, verifiable and irreversible manner and with undiminished security for all.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether the Government has plans to send military troops for (a) training, (b) combat support and (c) other purposes to Mozambique.

The Ministry of Defence, with other Departments, is supporting the British High Commission in Maputo in developing a varied programme of assistance under the framework of the UK-Mozambique Defence Memorandum of Understanding agreed in 2019. This involves defence cooperation and aims to assist the Government of Mozambique in addressing terrorism and promoting respect for human rights. As the security situation evolves, we will continue to review and adapt that programme in consultation with the Government of Mozambique.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether the UK mission to Afghanistan is assisting in the protection of Hazaras people in Ghazni and Uruzgan provinces.

The UK continues to monitor the number of civilian casualties and displaced persons as a result of the recent violence in Ghazni and Uruzgan. The Afghan Security Forces have been in the lead for the security of the Afghan people since 2015 and owing to its response, the situation in these two provinces is stabilising. The UK is committed to supporting the Afghan Security Forces to ensure their capability continues to improve in order to protect all ethnic and religious groups in Afghanistan.
