Written Question
Terminal Illnesses
Wednesday 16th July 2014

Asked by: Liz Kendall (Labour - Leicester West)

Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many employment tribunals in which the appellant had a terminal condition and was contesting a dismissal that occurred because of their diagnosis took place in each of the last five years.

Answered by Shailesh Vara

Data on the number of claims made by appellants with a terminal condition on the grounds of unfair dismissal is not collated centrally by HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). This information could only be provided at a disproportionate cost by manually checking hard copy tribunal files or judgments.
