Commons ChamberFirst, let me join the hon. Gentleman in commending hospices across the country, which do a fantastic job. This issue has been raised previously in light of changes that took place at a previous Budget. I do not know what will be in the Budget next Wednesday, but it sounds to me like the sort of issue that he might want to raise directly in the four days of debate.
If undiagnosed in young babies, metachromatic leukodystrophy becomes a cruel life-limiting disease, but there is no screening for the condition in the UK. Will the Leader of the House help me to request a meeting between the Minister responsible and patient representatives to discuss opportunities for making urgent progress in this area to prevent needless loss of life and the UK falling behind international comparators?
My hon. Friend is right to raise that important matter, which I recall was also raised by the hon. Member for Wells and Mendip Hills (Tessa Munt) last week. I committed then to facilitate a meeting with the relevant Minister, so I extend the same courtesy and offer to my hon. Friend.
