Grant all overseas NHS staff and their family's indefinite leave to remain (ILR)

The NHS has chronic staff shortages. We do not know how long or severe Covid-19 will be or if it will return after lockdown or during next winter. The government must offer all current overseas NHS staff and their families, irrespective of grade or position, more certainty by granting all ILR.

Home Secretary Patel states “Doctors, nurses and paramedics from all over the world are playing a leading role in the NHS’s efforts to tackle Covid-19 and save lives. We owe them a great deal of gratitude for all that they do”. Her offer of a 1 year free visa extension to 2,800 staff is derisory and demeaning to them and to the good name and traditions of our nation whose subjects' lives they are saving every day. Granting these vital NHS staff indefinite leave to remain is the very least we can do.
