The strongest multi-academy trusts (MATs) have had a transformative effect, turning around the performance of some of the most challenging schools in the country.

The Department offers a range of support to MATs to support them to be successful and to adopt the practices of the best performing. This can include: advice and guidance, peer-to-peer support, access to professional development activities, and funding.

Where schools in a trust are underperforming, regional schools commissioners and their teams work with trusts on a case by case basis to determine the best course of action to secure improvement for pupils.
