Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many awards have been made for claims of punitive damages in cases of death of military personnel in each of the last 10 years; and if he will make a statement.

Claims data is not recorded in a way which identifies claims in which Courts awarded punitive or exemplary damages against the Department in cases involving the death of military personnel. It is, however, believed that there have been no cases at all in the last 10 years.
