Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what the average rate has been for convicted prisoners escaping from custody per 1,000 prisoners in each of the last five years.

Statistics on the number of escapes from prison custody are published in the supplementary tables of the HMPPS Annual Digest, which is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/annual-national-offender-management-service-digest-2016-to-2017

Statistics are not collected in a way that distinguishes between convicted and unconvicted prisoners. The rate of escapes per 1,000 prisoners is less than 1 per 1,000 for each of the last five years.
